Bruce J. Babij

Bruce J. Babij was born and raised in rural, upstate New York where his family operated a converted farmhouse as a seasonal Inn.

Bruce received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, the renowned “Great Books” program, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Villanova University in 1983.

From the very outset of his professional career, Bruce’s practice has been exclusively focused on vindicating the legal rights of those victimized by the negligence of others.

Upon his graduation from law school, Bruce became a staff attorney for the American Association for Justice, Product Liability Exchange. In that capacity, Bruce was directly responsible for assisting attorneys across the country in investigating and prosecuting consumer, automotive and pharmaceutical product liability cases.

Upon joining the Firm of which he is now a principal, Bruce has had the primary responsibility for managing and litigating the firm’s most protracted and complex cases, including product liability cases against such major manufacturers as General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Caterpillar, Inc., GlaxoSmithKline, Bausch & Lomb, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Dow Corning Corporation.

More recently, Bruce has devoted his practice to the representation of infants and children who have suffered birth trauma and birth related injuries as a result of obstetrical and/or neonatal malpractice. Bruce has successfully litigated such cases on behalf of these most innocent of victims across the country, recovering hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation on their behalf.

Bruce is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and has been specially admitted in jurisdictions across the country.

Bruce is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Maryland Association for Justice and numerous specialty and regional bar associations.

Bruce has perennially maintained the prestigious “A/V” rating awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, publisher of the definitive directory of America’s Leading Lawyers and has been recognized by his peers as a “Super Lawyer” in Baltimore Magazine.

Most recently, along with his partners, Henry E. Dugan, Jr. and George S. Tolley, III, Bruce was recognized as Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2009 by the Maryland Association for Justice for his dedicated representation of a brain damaged child injured at birth as a result of obstetrical malpractice. Through the efforts of Bruce and his colleagues, a $13.1 Million verdict was obtained on behalf of the injured child, representing one of, if not the, largest verdicts in a medical malpractice case in the history of the State of Maryland.

Bruce, his wife — a nurse practitioner — and their sons reside in Baltimore, Maryland. When he’s able to take time off from his busy practice, Bruce enjoys nothing more than to spend some precious time with his boys — hiking, biking, fishing and rooting for their forlorn Baltimore Orioles.
