The following cases are representative of those recently filed by

1. BIRTH INJURY. An obstetrician and delivery-room nurse administered excessive amounts of pitocin/oxytocin to a 39-year-old pregnant mother, resulting in uterine hyperstimulation that contributed to a severe shoulder dystocia and the death of the baby within hours of its birth.
2. BIRTH INJURY. During the labor of a 23-year-old pregnant mother, the obstetrician and delivery-room nurses allegedly failed to assess and respond to ominous signs of fetal distress, resulting in a delay in the delivery of the baby, who died as a result of brain damage due to asphyxiation and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
3. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. During a routine CT scan, a 72-year-old woman was dropped from the examining table by the radiology technician, resulting in numerous fractures and related serious injuries, causing her death in the hospital several days later.
4. BIRTH INJURY. During the labor of a 21-year-old pregnant woman, the obstetrician attempted to extract the baby from a high station in the birth canal, allegedly contributing to a shoulder dystocia. The obstetrician and delivery room nurses thereafter allegedly applied excessive pressure and force in an attempt to relieve the shoulder dystocia, causing a permanent brachial plexus injury.
5. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. A 59-year-old man presented to an emergency room with complaints of right hip pain, but was discharged without a proper diagnosis. He returned the next day with progressively more severe pain and neurologic symptoms associated with cauda equina syndrome. It is alleged that the responsible health care providers failed to diagnose and treat his condition properly, resulting in permanent nerve injury and incontinence.
6. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. VA hospital personnel allegedly failed to diagnose and treat thrombocytopenia purpura in a 75-year-old veteran patient, resulting in his death.
7. NURSING HOME NEGLIGENCE. An independent 80-year-old nursing home resident was given anticoagulation medications after hip surgery. The nursing home staff allegedly failed to perform essential blood laboratory testing for weeks, resulting in a bleeding disorder, massive bruising and paralysis due to bleeding into the spinal column.
8. BIRTH INJURY. During the labor of a pregnant 19-year-old mother, the obstetrician and delivery room nurses allegedly failed to promptly respond to ominous signs of fetal distress as evidenced on fetal heart rate monitoring. After hours of unnecessary delay, the baby died in utero and was delivered by an emergency cesarean section.
9. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. Hospital personnel allegedly failed to diagnose a dissecting aortic aneurysm in a 29-year-old man who complained of severe chest pain and who was discharged without receiving any appropriate treatment. The man subsequently died of a ruptured aortic aneurysm, leaving behind a widow and four young children.
10. BIRTH INJURY. During the delivery of a baby girl to a 17-year-old mother, the obstetrician and delivery room nurses allegedly applied excessive pressure and force during an attempted vacuum assisted delivery, causing a permanent brachial plexus injury.
11. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. During routine sinus surgery for snoring, the surgeon allegedly punctured a hole through the skull of a 40-year-old man resulting in permanent neurologic injury and a total loss of all sensation of smell and taste.
12. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. A 62-year-old man was discharged from the hospital after knee replacement surgery without necessary blood thinning medications, resulting in his death from a pulmonary embolism associated with the formation of a deep vein thrombosis.
